Danny Boyle: Slumdog Millionaire (2008)

There's an idea but that isn't good enough. It reminds me of 'Usual Suspects' which was either a fine movie but it has it's moments anyway.
I know: it's only movie but I don't like it, like it, no I don't.
The things at the police station are childish and the end of the movie is a try for Bollywood but then, it ain't. Little children are good, older not so good. (But perhaps it is not their fault? The story just is uninteresting...)
Shame.

I WANT TO SAY THAT

Tässä leffassa on tietenkin oma ideansa, mutta se ei ihan riitä koko elokuvaksi, vaan juttu tuntuu jossakin määrin (eikä ihan vähänkään) pidennetyltä vitsiltä. Elokuva tuo hiukan mieleeni jopa 'Usual Suspects' -elokuvan, jolla silläkin oli hetkensä, vaikkei se kokonaisuutensa hyvä leffa ollutkaan.
No, kysehän on vain elokuvasta, ei ehkä ole tarkoitettukaan uskottavaksi hetkiä poliisiasemalla? Ne vain tuntuvat kovin lapsellisilta, keinotekoisilta ja päälleliimatuilta. Kunnon Bollywood-leffan tavoin loppu on silkkaa romantiikkaa, mutta sekään ei tässä jotenkin toimi, jos elokuvaa tarkastelee kokonaisuutena.
Slummilapset selviävät osistaan loistavasti, mutta vanhemmat ovat pelkkiä kliseitä ilman näyteltävää. (Se mitä todellisuus kertoi myöhemmin näiden pikkulasten elämänkäänteistä, tuo oman pöyristyttävän lisänsä tämän leffan karmaan...)

Robert Zemeckis: Forrest Gump (1994)

Robert Zemeckis has created a fine universum in his 'Back to the Future'-films. 'Used Cars' (1980) was already an interesting and promising movie and 'Romancing the Stone' (1984) was a wonderful adventure. But then. Then seems like the story has vanished and digital effects have taken the room. It happened already in 'Death Becomes Her' (1992) and it happened in 'Contact' (1997) and it happened specially in 'Forrest Gump' (1994).

If you take effects away there's nothing left.

OOPS! I DID IT AGAIN...

Robert Zemeckis on luonut hyvän universumin "Paluu tulevaisuuteen"-trilogiassaan. Jo "Autohuijarit" antoi lupauksia, mutta sittemmin tuntuu kuin tarina olisi hukkunut visuaalisuuden (lue: tietokone-efektien!!!) kustannuksella. Näin kävi "Ensimmäisessä yhteydessä" ja näin kävi "Kuolema pukee häntä"-leffassa, mutta näin kävi ennen kaikkea "Forrest Gumpissa". Jos efektit ottaa pois, ei mitään jää jäljelle.

Gus Van Sant: Will Hunting (1997)

Robin Williams is one of my favourites when it comes in comedy. This kind of a role he makes in the same routine than he gets his paycheck. The problem in 'Will Hunting' is that there ain't no script at all.

THE HUNT:

Robin Williams on yksi suosikeistani koomisesti viritetyllä saralla. Tällaisen roolin Williams vetäisee samalla rutiinilla kuin ylipäänsä kuittaa palkkionsa. 'Will Huntingin' ongelma on siinä, että elokuvassa ei ole käsikirjoitusta.

Steven Spielberg: Artificial Intelligence: AI (2001)

Too bad... we never know what kind of a film this could be? The genious Stanley Kubrick had other projects and he didn't have time to do this movie. So his friend, Steven Spielberg, made AI and now we have a Spielberg movie. Not a Kubrick movie.
Spielberg has done many fine movies. This is not one of them. It's boring.
No one should do this film. Except Kubrick.

INTELLIGENCE:

Sääli... me emme saa koskaan tietää, mitä tästä leffasta olisi tullut? Nerokkaalla Stanley Kubrickilla oli muita töitä, eikä hänellä ollut aikaa tehdä tätä elokuvaa. Joten hänen ystävänsä, Steven Spielberg, teki AI:n ja niinpä meillä onkin nyt Spielberg-elokuva. Ei Kubrick-elokuvaa.
Spielberg on tehnyt useita hienoja elokuvia. Tämä ei ole yksi niistä. Tämä on tylsä.
Kenenkään ei olisi pitänyt tehdä tätä elokuvaa. Paitsi Kubrickin.

Andrew Dominik: The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007)

Music was great. But when it started for twenty-first time, it was not a big surprise... Perhaps the director Andrew Dominik had a mystic movie of a legend in his mind but instead of that he made a dullmovie. The best thing in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford was Casey Affleck (that was a surprise) and his role was a loser and him we all hated anyway!

MY NAME IS JAMES, JESSE JAMES:

Musiikki oli hienoa. Tosin kun teema alkoi kahdennenkymmenennenensimmäisen kerran, se ei ollut enää kovin suuri yllätysmomentti... Ehkäpä ohjaaja Andrew Dominikilla oli mielessään mystinen elokuva legendasta, mutta sensijaan hän tuli tehneeksi tylsän elokuvan. Parasta elokuvassa Jesse Jamesin salamurha pelkuri Robert Fordin toimesta oli yllättäin Casey Affleckin roolisuoritus, mutta häntä me tietysti inhosimme koko elokuvassa!

Joel Coen: The Hudsucker Proxy (1994)

I've never been a big fan of Coen brothers. They have some entertaining movies, nothing more. But this was no movie at all. I don't know about Tim Robbins but Paul Newman is a great actor and now he did a mistake. The Hudsucker Proxy is a wrong movie to be with. It's quite boring (it's longer than it's lenght) and then there's nothing more to tell.

LIFE SUCKS:

En ole koskaan ollut mikään iso Coenin veljesten ihailija. He ovat tehneet pari viihdyttävää elokuvaa, siinä kaikki. Mutta tämä ei kyllä ollut mikään elokuva ollenkaan. Enpä tiedä Tim Robbinsista, mutta Paul Newman on huippunäyttelijä ja nyt hän teki virheen. The Hudsucker Proxy on täysin väärä elokuva hänelle. Se on melko pitkästyttävä (kestoaan pitempi), eikä siitä sitten ole muuta kerrottavaa.

Roman Polanski: Pirates (1986)

Everyone warned about this movie. I didn't belive them: Roman Polanski (my youth's hero), Walter Matthau (great comedian) and pirates (every little boy's dream)!
How wrong you can be.
